Our client who are based in Colnbrook and specialise in Hi-Val shipping have a new position  available for an Import Assistant, the successful candidate should have some’ previous import airfreight experience, be organised and have good admin/IT skills and a driving licence. Must be able to commute to Colnbrook and have a steady 5 year employment history and NO criminal record.

Main Purpose of Job: The import Assistant will act as a key member of the Imports team ensuring the best client experience.

Main responsibilities:  The role of Import Assistant will involve, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Monitor pre-alerts from foreign agents and raise import files.
  • Create records in the ERTS system ready for clearance.
  • Ensure all relevant and legal documentation is in place for the Customs Clearance.
  • Complete and check customs entries checking the CPC to be used after receiving instructions from the client.
  • Check the status of the clients’ deferment account and to organise payment to HM Customs if funds are not available.
  • Ensure the client file is completed with the release information before delivery is organised.
  • Support the management with deliveries in transport department taking into consideration size, value, location and urgency of delivery.
  • Carry out accurate and timely billing for client accounts.
  • Undertake additional duties, or assist other members of staff, as may be reasonably requested by the Manager or Directors.

Essential

  • Valid UK Driving Licence – Some travel between depots required.
  • Background & DBS checks – Due to the nature of the role.

Skills

  • The ability to prioritise and organise own workload to tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills: The ability to communicate effectively with the clients and colleagues.
  • Be a team player in the Imports team as well as working with team members in across departments.

Knowledge

  • Experience of imports.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office: – Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams.
  • Data management, keep accurate records for the department.

Compulsory checks:

Due to the nature of the role there are a number of compulsory checks that must be carried out

  •  A criminal record check – basic disclosure (DBS) carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  •  5-year background check to include gaps of 28 days or more with all gaps in employment analysed and accounted for.
  •  Driving licence check.
